Research Physics

Target Audience – 10th Grade Students Studying at Schwartz/Reisman Centers

In the hours when most students have already gone home, the magic of research physics begins—experimentation, inquiry, and discovery.

Research Physics is a unique subject offered at the advanced level of 5 matriculation units, allowing high school physics students to engage in authentic academic research while still in secondary school. The program takes place after regular school hours.

In 10th grade, students acquire the foundations of research work, including familiarity with measurement tools, the design and construction of experimental systems, data analysis, and comparison of results with physical models and simulations.
In 11th grade, students embark on an independent research project—working in pairs, selecting a research topic, and conducting original research that continues through the first half of 12th grade. The process concludes with the writing of a research paper, preparation of a presentation, and an oral defense before an external examiner, on which the matriculation grade is based.

The program is characterized by a high level of independence, alongside close professional guidance and the development of advanced research skills—driven by the students’ curiosity and motivation throughout the journey.

Registration for Research Physics

Registration for Research Physics takes place at the beginning of 10th grade only, following an introductory exposure session to the program, delivered by a Research Physics instructor at the center.

Students who begin their studies at the Schwartz/Reisman Center will receive a comprehensive introduction to the Research Physics program at the start of 10th grade, including the structure of the program and its academic requirements. Registration will open following this introductory stage.

Students who wish to register for Research Physics prior to the exposure session may contact their physics teacher at the Schwartz/Reisman Center for additional information.

Please note: Registration closes after Hanukkah of 10th grade, and it will not be possible to join the program after that date.
