Hemda Tel Aviv

Hemda Tel Aviv–Jaffa Center for Science Education – has been operating since 1989 as a unique model for advanced science education. The center enables high school students from across the city to study physics and chemistry at the highest level (5 study units), alongside broad scientific enrichment beyond the Ministry of Education curriculum, including fields such as computational science and research physics.

Studies at Hemed take place as an integral part of the students’ regular school timetable, while maintaining their affiliation with their home schools. Teaching is based on experiential, hands-on learning, with each classroom functioning as an active laboratory, eliminating the traditional separation between theory and practice. The center’s staff also provides individual academic support and maintains continuous online communication with students.

Over the years, Hemed has developed unique programs such as research physics, computational science, and advanced experimental chemistry, alongside workshops, enrichment courses, a makers lab, scientific tours, and applied projects. This educational model has played a key role in establishing Tel Aviv–Jaffa as a national leader in science education.

The teaching staff includes 18 teachers and 3 laboratory technicians, all holding advanced degrees in physics and possessing extensive research experience.
