At the Gelfand Fab Lab, part of the Schwartz/Reisman Science Education Centers, we run a unique workshop for sailing mini sailboats!
During the workshop, participants received parts created in the lab using advanced maker machines. They then had to design, assemble, and sail a mini sailboat in a designated water pool. The goal? To build the fastest sailboat.
The task wasn’t easy – students had to consider factors like weight, the location of the center of gravity, sail size, and the angle of its interaction with the wind, ensuring the boat’s speed and its ability to cross the finish line first.
This workshop combines physics learning, problem-solving, teamwork, and loads of creativity – all while tackling the challenges of water and wind.
So, whose boat will be the fastest?
